Viv was born in Alnwick, Northumberland and attended the Duchess’s School where she was inspired by her art teacher Anna Watson and her love of art and music. From there she completed a foundation course in Art and Design at Leicester Polytechnic and gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design, specializing in illustration, at the Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry.
She moved to London where she applied her illustration skills and love of portraiture to various design projects for Creative Consultants Stylorouge including music packaging for Alison Moyet, Johnny Mathis & Natalie Cole and Paul Kossoff, and visuals for Paul Young, George Michael & Wham! and Blur together with film posters and other projects. Further clients included BBC Publications, Acrobat Design and the Oxford University Press.
Viv has now returned home to her beloved Northumberland and lives in Alnmouth, where she has set up The Riverside Studio with her partner Graeme to showcase her paintings and prints of local scenes in acrylics and watercolour and inspired by the Northumberland coast where she grew up. Her studio overlooks the river Aln and estuary and she offers visits by appointment.
She is probably best known in Alnwick for her large scale ‘Comedy Great’ paintings which adorned the auditorium at Alnwick Playhouse before its renovation.
